Game Drives.

Morning & Night Game Drives

Let's ride.

Two very different sides of the same valley. Morning drives are slow, scenic, and built for watching the bush wake up — big mammals in good light, coffee in a scenic spot, a guide who knows every tree and track. Night drives are a different animal altogether: spotlight in hand, searching out the creatures that only come alive once the sun’s gone down.

Both run in open vehicles, so nothing sits between you and the valley — no windows, no glass, just the bush right there.

Hit the road

What to expect.

Morning Drive Out at 06:00, just after a light breakfast for full-board guests, back around 10:15. This is when the big mammals are out and photographing well — elephant, zebra, giraffe, and buffalo are regulars, with impala, puku, and kudu filling in the gaps. Birding here is genuinely spectacular, and the valley floor holds trees older than a thousand years. Your guide isn’t just driving and looking — expect real insight into the mammals, birds, insects, trees, and local history along the way, with a stop for coffee at a scenic spot to stretch your legs. Full-board guests have lunch waiting shortly after you’re back.

Night Drive Out at 16:00, back around 20:15 — just in time for a late three-course dinner for full-board guests. You’ll catch the last of the afternoon light, stop for sundowners, then switch to spotlight once the sun’s down and a completely different set of animals takes over. Genets and African civets are regulars, the valley’s Pell’s Fishing Owl population is a real draw for birders, and South Luangwa’s leopard sightings are some of the best in Africa — never guaranteed, but always possible. Our guides work with experienced spotters who can pick out a chameleon in the dark, which tells you everything about how good they are at their job. Where mornings are about watching the bush go by, nights tend to bring the excitement.
